Background

The idea originated as an ordinary road trip between four friends on a hot summers night in 2009.

“We have the opportunity to use a huge Land Rover Defender for free, how amazing would it be to just drive for however far it takes us?!?!”

The adventurous thought intrigued all four guys, but logistically it was still more of a unrealistic way to spend a summer. Apart from individual time constraints the main set back was that such a trip could cost a lot of money and would therefor not be very feasible for the group as a whole.

“We should make the money on the way!”

Again, this seemed like a ridiculous idea at first, however 2 of the guys, Hanno and Jamie, had recently earned quite a sufficient amount by performing freestyles and rap lyrics on the streets of Berlin. Therefor confidence was quite high that with a newly released debut album and the company of Max and David (along with all the musical equipment the four could gather up) this mission was quite conceivable afteral.

The “road trip” expanded into a musical quest to explore talented street artists along the way in order to jam and learn from them. Instead of just driving off with no aim the boys have made Casablanca their main aim along with numerous specific stops on the way in order to perform small shows and interact with diverse artists.

“Why not film this?”

All characters have had an interest in film in one way or another with Hanno and Jamie even studying it in the past. The idea of documenting this adventure seemed very intriguing.

“How are we going to do that? We do not have the equipment and we will be busy enough trying to achieve our goals on road”

It soon became clear that just taking a digi camera along would not end up as more than a fun holiday video. They needed a team!

Asking friends and family to come along as a team and researching equipment etc. made the group realize that this would costs a lot of money. They started asking for donations, trying to get the media interested and contacting suitable companies for sponsoring. The film idea was steadily growing and evolved from what would be a holiday tape to a youtube film to something a lot bigger.

Thankfully Red Bull Media House GmbH was soon on board and opened a lot of doors for the boys. Altho they would now be much less involved in the filmic side of the project, they could soley focus on their trip, their music and achieving their goals of interacting, meeting and recording intriguing artists, marketing “JollyJay & HtoO” and their new release, getting to their destinations by making all the money as they go along and having a great time!

However, the essence of this project isn’t to purely focus on the four friends and their missions. A much more interesting part of 39Days is to document the diverse people they meet along the way.

“Don’t Let The Label Label You”

This is a proud statement of the group and a message that they want to carry through the 8 countries they pass.

“39Days is an interactive journey! We want to give a platform to talented people with a true love to the art. Are you a musician or independent artists who will be able to meet up along the way?  Got some sick bars? Up for a cypher? Up for some jams? Want to be a spectator? A fellow performer or even a teacher to us boys to help us progress. We will carry as much equipment and as many instruments to share as we can!!”

39Days will be documented and edited by Red Bull Media House and even.tv along the way. Watch the episodes as the journey progresses! Or even better – be part of it!
